Delicious Vegan Tofu “Hot Wings” Recipe

Okay, so I’m going to start out by staying that I can’t take FULL credit for this recipe… A friend of mine posted something similar on Instagram recently that she made and I just knew I had to try it! She handed over the ingredients as well as some simple instructions. I then took some time to experiment with the information she provided and came up with what I like to call a delicious vegan “hot wings” fix! 😉

Also, I am currently not vegan but I am planning to transition into a full-time vegan lifestyle in the nearby future. If you think I’m crazy for considering this “drastic” dietary change, I recommend you do two things:

One – Watch “The Game Changers” on Netflix. I won’t go into too much detail, but it’s a documentary that explains why consuming animal meat and their byproducts is actually very harmful to the human body. Their research dates back to the Roman Gladiator days and is conducted by reputable scientists and data analysts.

Two – If watching the documentary didn’t seem to convince you but you’d like to know more, follow my blog and get ready to hear about a first-hand science experiment with my own body. Yup, you read that correctly! My boyfriend and I have decided that we’re going to spend the entire month of September 2020 eating a vegan-only diet. And just an FYI, I did not force him into this with me. He and I had both seen “The Game Changers” before we met so he’s excited to be my accountability partner in this. As it gets closer to September, I’ll be posting more information so be sure to stay in the loop.

Back to the recipe…

If you’re looking for some suggestions on sauces, keep on reading and I’ll happily share my thoughts and opinions with you!

Buffalo sauce – I honestly had absolutely no clue what to buy when looking for one at H-E-B so I went with my internal Texan instinct and got… Whataburger‘s brand! And boy, what a crowd pleaser! Myself, my boyfriend as well as my three roommates loved the flavor of this sauce. It had just the right amount of spice that even after marinating the tofu in it AND tossing it in more afterwards, it wasn’t overbearing.

BBQ sauce – again, not an expert on sauces but H-E-B had Texas Q BBQ sauce on sale so (me being budget-conscious) chose this one and it was very bold in flavor yet not overwhelming. It has a great combination of sweet and tangy and after doing some research, I found out that this is a local organization that has been recognized by the Food Network.

Teriyaki – okay so I’m not going to lie, this was everyone’s least favorite of the three… We used a combination of 2 TBSP sesame oil, 4 TBSP soy sauce, 2 TBSP sugar, 1 TBSP hoisin sauce and 1 TBSP sriracha to make our own teriyaki sauce. It was a bit too salty and the flavor just wasn’t as good as the other two.

These were not only fun to make, but so incredibly delicious and GUILT-FREE! I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we did. 🙂
